"With two years left on our current office lease, I started contacting large commercial real estate firms in the hopes that they could help me renegotiate my current lease and also help me negotiate a new lease. We had downsized our company by 50% and were paying very high rates for space we weren’t even using. At the same time, I was actively pursuing subletting some of our office space to lessen the financial burden we were carrying, but wasn’t having much luck. After getting a “no” from the building landlord on renegotiating our current rates, the large commercial realtors basically told me that I had no choice but to put up with the outrageous rates and wait for my lease to run its course.
