"With two years left on our current office lease, I started contacting large commercial real estate firms in the hopes that they could help me renegotiate my current lease and also help me negotiate a new lease. We had downsized our company by 50% and were paying very high rates for space we weren’t even using. At the same time, I was actively pursuing subletting some of our office space to lessen the financial burden we were carrying, but wasn’t having much luck. After getting a “no” from the building landlord on renegotiating our current rates, the large commercial realtors basically told me that I had no choice but to put up with the outrageous rates and wait for my lease to run its course. When I asked if they could help me with subletting our space, some told me no and others said they would help for large amounts of money. It was at this point that David Blackwood contacted me and my leasing woes began to brighten up. During the last year of our lease, we did sublet our extra space, with lots of good advice from David, while he continuously negotiated with our landlord, and also had me looking at lots of other available office spaces. Near the end of our current lease, David had negotiated a great new lease with our current landlord (alleviating moving costs and time), which allows our sublettors to stay, but if they do leave, the landlord will be responsible for their part of the office space.
