Established in 1978, Sierra La Verne Country Club is nested in the foothills of the majestic San Gabriel Mountains. It is a setting of peace and tranquility, with amazing views in all directions. But don’t let the pleasant surrounds lull you – despite its length (6,356 from the tips) this golf course has some teeth. The front nine is reminiscent of the traditional “core” golf course. Homes border the outside edges and the interior finds a course routed through oak-lined fairways, near small creeks and ponds, and onto challenging undulation and well bunkered greens. Golfers who are accurate and know how to work the ball will thoroughly enjoy this front nine layout. The back nine is a step into nature and the beauty of old California. Towering views of the San Gabriel Mountains backdrop a course nestled along the contours of the arroyo. Centuries year old oaks and sycamores shade the boundaries tightening the fairways off every drive. As on the front nine, the greens tend to be heavily sloped and well-guarded. “Boring” will never be a word used to describe this gem of a course.
