The West Carrollton Center is a new construction retail center located at Cicero St. at Jefferson Highway, and will host up to three (3) commercial tenants, new pedestrian and biking infrastructure, parking, and green space. The WCC contains a total of 6,497 SF, which includes 4,482 SF of retail space, 922 SF of optional mezzanine area, and 1,095 SF of covered outdoor seating area. The project seeks to meet a growing need for accessible and healthy food options in an area that currently offers a limited menu of restaurants. The WCC conveniently straddles the Orleans / Jefferson Parish line, and is four (4) blocks from the main campus of Ochsner Medical Center, where over 6,500 employees, patients and doctors work or visit daily.

With sustainability as the driving force of the design, the WCC endeavors to minimize the building’s environmental footprint, and is the first project to implement the Jefferson Parish’s recently adopted Low-Impact Development Guidelines; and will be a model for storm water management and green infrastructure. The building design is surrounded by a diverse landscape of water-loving plants, permeable surfaces, and underground retention basins to address drainage requirements. The wetland landscaping creates a natural boundary surrounding a covered outdoor gallery that wraps the building and offers a protected and beautiful outdoor dining experience. Low-E Glazing will allow natural light into the building while limiting undesirable solar heat gain. On-site bike parking and new sidewalks promote pedestrian urban design on an otherwise car-centric street.

With limited nearby dining currently available, there is an immediate need to diversify this area’s dining options to serve its growing population. The West Carrollton Center will be the first retail offering of its kind, and will serve as a precedent for sustainable, beautiful, and contextual building design in Jefferson Parish.
