Property Details

Completed in 1891, this building as named after Frank Dekum, a prominent Portland fruit merchant, banker and real estate investor. Built in the Richardsonian Romanesque style, it is constructed entirely of Oregon materials and cost $300,000 to build at the time. During construction the masons reportedly drank beer instead of coffee. Once serving as headquarters for the city’s government in the 1890’s, the Dekum Building was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1980. The basketball court on the fourth floor still exists from the time Weiden & Kennedy Advertising Agency had their headquarters in this building.
