As quoted in Southern Business and Development magazine, Winchester was named as one of the ?Ten Strong Economies You May Not Have Noticed?, along with Birmingham Alabama, Louisville Kentucky and Oklahoma City. Chamura?s predicts? strong growth for Winchester, with employment growth at 2.2% and salaries to increase at a rate of 6.5%. The latest data available showed an increase of 16.9% in high-tech employment. Also predicted are an ?increase in retail sales of 4.7% and a 5.5% increase in building permits.? The economy continues to expand with commuters from the Washington DC area, along with the influx of major industrial firms and the relocation of Federal offices such as FEMA and FBI.
